Dermatology advertising rules in the UAE, and the content AI reads

Three dermatology advertising rules bind every UAE skin clinic. Here is what each one means for a website, and why the content that passes them is the content an assistant repeats.

Short answer

A UAE dermatology clinic advertises under the Dubai Health Authority standards in Dubai, the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi and MOHAP in Sharjah, with the DHCR policy on top inside Dubai Healthcare City. The three rules that shape a website are the licence number, the doctor's title and the treatment of images and results.

None of them costs you anything in an AI answer. An assistant repeats facts: the condition, the doctor, the licence, the visit. It cannot verify a promise, so it does not repeat one.

This guide says what we write to. It is not legal advice, and the rules move: the DHA re-issued its advertising standards by circular in September 2026. Check your position with your regulator.

Rule one: the advertisement licence number

The official account of a health facility has to state the medical advertisement licence number (DHA Standards for Medical Advertisement Content in Social Media, Standard 5.2, effective 3 October 2022). On a website that means the footer and the condition pages, not a PDF nobody opens.

For AI content it is an asset. A licence number on the page is one more fact a model can cross-check against the DHA register, and a matched fact is a reason to name you.

Rule two: the title on the licence

A practitioner may not use a specialty title different from the licence (Standard 6.1). Skin care specialist, aesthetic dermatologist and cosmetic doctor are the usual breaches. Use dermatologist, or consultant dermatologist, exactly as licensed.

The standards also list the words a health advertisement may not use: the best, the only, safest, guaranteed, 100% and immediate results (Standard 6.11). Patients type the best dermatologist in Dubai into an assistant every day. Your page answers that question by stating what you treat and who treats it, never by using the phrase.

Rule three: images, results and prices

Before and after images must show the same person, taken with the same lens, unedited, with a statement that the result is not guaranteed in the same font size as the rest of the content (Standard 9.6). Miss the statement and the whole advertisement is prohibited.

Inside Dubai Healthcare City the DHCR Advertisement Policy adds that a fixed or range price may be advertised only where the advertisement states whether additional charges may apply, and that advertisements may not offer money refunds (DHCR, 27 October 2019). A covered dermatology visit rarely needs a price on the page at all; the insurers you take do more work.

What this means for each page

Written to the rules, a skin clinic site has fewer photos and more sentences than the ones you compete with. That is the point.

  • Condition pages

The condition, the visit, the treating doctor by licensed title, the follow up. No result promised, no countdown, no banned word.

  • Doctor pages

Name, licensed title, qualifications, licence details, conditions seen, languages.

  • Galleries

Either meet Standard 9.6 in full, including the disclaimer at body font size, or leave them out. A gallery adds nothing to an AI answer.

  • Reviews and replies

Ask for reviews that name the condition. Reply without discussing a named patient's care and without claiming a result.

  • Sign off

The medical director reviews every page before it is published, which is what the standards expect of the facility.

Why compliant content and cited content are the same content

An assistant builds its answer from sentences it can check. Which conditions a clinic treats, which licensed doctor treats them, where the clinic is, what a visit involves. Those are the sentences the rules allow. The aspirational copy the rules ban is also copy a model cannot verify, so it leaves it out.

So the clinic that writes to the rules is not giving anything up. It is writing the only kind of page that gets quoted.

This is what we write to, not legal advice. Rules change and they change quickly, so check the current rules with your regulator.

The short version

What to do this week.

Seven things, in order. None of them needs a developer, an agency or a budget, and every one of them is checkable by you.

  1. 01 Put the advertisement licence number in the footer and on every condition page.
  2. 02 Match every doctor title on the site to the DHA, DoH or MOHAP licence.
  3. 03 Remove the best, the only, safest, guaranteed, 100% and immediate results from every page and profile.
  4. 04 Audit every before and after image against Standard 9.6 or take it down.
  5. 05 Add the extra charges note to any published price, and remove any refund offer.
  6. 06 Set up medical director sign off before a page goes live.
  7. 07 Diarise a rules check every six months with your regulator.

Questions

What owners ask about this.

Our competitors say guaranteed results. Why can we not?
Because guaranteed is on the DHA list of prohibited words (Standard 6.11), and a careful model will not repeat the claim either. Their exposure is not a defence for yours, and you give up nothing in the answer by leaving it out.
Do these rules apply to the website or only to social media?
The DHA document covers medical advertisement content on social media, and the media content standards and the Consumer Protection Law cover websites and other advertising. We write to the strictest of them across every surface. It is simpler to run and safer.
Can we mention insurance on the page?
Yes. Naming the plans you take is a fact, not an inducement, and it is one of the ten questions patients ask an assistant. Keep it accurate and keep it current.
What do we say instead of the banned words?
Say what you do and how. The conditions, the doctor and their licence, what the first visit involves, the follow up, and reviews that describe the visit. Those are the facts patients ask for and the ones an assistant can repeat.
