Why Google is the spine here
In some countries reviews are spread across half a dozen platforms. In the UAE the centre of gravity is Google, which holds 95.8% of search (Statcounter, August 2026), and the Business Profile is the record most machines check first.
Some industries have a real second surface, and it is worth having in order: Property Finder and Bayut agency profiles for brokerages, Doctify for clinics, Trustpilot where you genuinely collect reviews there. Those are the exceptions. Do not spread yourself across ten platforms with five reviews on each.
What a useful review actually says
Compare two real shapes of review. "Great service, highly recommended, 5 stars." And: "Had Invisalign at their Jumeirah branch, Dr Anwar walked me through the cost before we started, treatment took eleven months and the price matched the quote." Both are five stars. Only one contains facts an answer can be built from.
- The service, in the words a buyer would search: Invisalign, villa fit-out, mainland trade licence, FUE
- The place: the branch, the area, the emirate
- The outcome, plainly stated and honest
- Anything that answers a worry a future buyer will have, such as cost, waiting time or aftercare
Ask for the specifics, do not script them
There is a line, and it is easy to stay the right side of it. Asking a happy customer to mention which service they had and which branch they visited is a prompt. Handing them a written review to post, or paying for one, is a misleading advertisement under the Consumer Protection Law and a fast route to losing your profile.
How to get more of them
- Ask at the moment of relief or delight, not a week later by email. After the treatment, at handover, when the licence comes through
- Ask in person, then send the direct link on WhatsApp within the hour
- Use the short Google review link so nobody has to search for you
- Ask in the language the customer speaks. Arabic reviews are read too, and they are thin on the ground in most markets we screen
- Make it one person's job each week, with a number attached. Ten asks a week beats a campaign once a year
Recency matters as much as volume. A profile with 300 reviews that stopped in 2024 reads as a business that peaked. Twenty a year, every year, tells a truer story and keeps fresh sentences flowing into the pages machines read.
How this shows up in answers
In our screening, the businesses named in Google AI Mode answers are usually the ones with a complete profile and a steady flow of recent, specific reviews. That is a pattern in what we have captured so far, not a law of nature, and we publish every dated snapshot in the UAE AI Visibility Index so you can read it yourself.
Two honest cautions. Being named is not proof of quality, and we never present it that way. And reviews alone will not carry you if your website cannot be read: the two jobs go together, which is why the master guide puts them in order.
A routine that survives a busy month
Review campaigns fail for one reason: they depend on somebody remembering. Build it into a moment that already happens and it keeps running when the week goes wrong.
- Pick the moment: after treatment, at handover, when the licence or the keys arrive. Same moment every time
- Give one person the job and one number: ten asks a week, counted
- Save the short review link as a WhatsApp shortcut so sending it takes five seconds
- Ask in the customer's language, and mention that saying which service and which branch helps other people find the right place
- Block twenty minutes every Monday to reply to everything from the previous week
Track reviews received per month rather than the total. The total only goes up and tells you nothing. The monthly number tells you whether the routine is alive, and it is the number that shows in how fresh your profile looks.
One more thing worth doing once a quarter: read your last twenty reviews and count how many name a service you sell. If the answer is under half, your ask is too vague, and the words a machine needs are the words you are not asking for.
Finally, do not chase a perfect average. A profile with nothing but five stars and no detail reads as managed, to buyers and to machines. A handful of four star reviews with a calm, specific reply under each one tells a far better story about how you handle a bad day, and those replies are text an answer engine can read.
